Hi, I’m Karen. I look forward to sharing my Yarnie Life with you. We will see how this journey goes. I have attempted to start my blog several times, but I felt my past domain names had made my niche too small. With Yarnie Life, I intend to share many of my yarn craft projects of both crochet and knitting, along with life in general.
I am in my mid-fifties, married to an amazing man, Mom to our wonderful 10-year-old daughter, stepmom to a remarkable almost-27-year-old daughter, and what I call a step-stepmom to my husband’s stepdaughters. I have been a nurse for the past 29 years, but have been a stay-at-home mom for the past 2 years. I am now homeschooling my 10-year-old, and assisting my aging parents with health issues and doctor appointments. And very much so, utilizing my love of yarn and the yarn arts to help me keep my racing menopausal brain in some semblance of ease.
I knitted for many years off and on throughout my life, but I took it up again last year. I have been very inspired by Norwegian knitting this go around. Probably being Norwegian and finding my current favorite YouTubers, who are Norwegian knitters, helps keep my interest at this time.
I had learned to crochet when I was 8 years old, when my Grandmother gave me one of her hooks, a ball of yarn, and taught me the basics. This sent me on a quest to make clothes for all of my dolls. I had put down my hook for many years. I picked it back up about 20 years ago and have been crocheting fairly consistently since then. But just about daily since 2020.
I hope you’ll join me on my yarn and life journey. I will be sharing projects and patterns I have found from some amazing designers, and hopefully inspire you on your journey, too. We will discuss life, crochet, and knitting along the way, and of course…yarn!!
P.S. I do still have my Grandmother’s crochet hook!!
