Knitting and Crochet

Why I Knit and Crochet

People often ask me why I knit and crochet.

Some assume it’s about making scarves, hats, or cozy blankets. Others think it’s just a hobby to pass the time. But for me, knitting and crocheting have become something much deeper than that. It’s a quiet space in a busy world.

Knitting and crocheting started simply enough. One stitch, then another. At first, it felt awkward- two needles or a hook, yarn slipping around my fingers, counting stitches, and trying not to lose track. But slowly, something shifted. The rhythm of the needles began to feel calming, almost meditative.

There’s something powerful about creating something with your hands. In a world where so much of what we do happens on screens, knitting and crochet are tangible. You can see progress row by row. You can hold it. You can wear it. You can give it to someone you love.

Knitting and crochet also teach patience. Projects don’t happen instantly. A sweater takes time. A blanket takes even longer. But every stitch matters, and every row builds on the one before it. It’s a reminder that beautiful things are often created slowly.

Sometimes, knitting and crochet are about creativity. Choosing colors, textures, and patterns turns a simple skein of yarn into something unique. Other times it’s about comfort- curling up on the couch with a project after a long day.

But more than anything, I knit and crochet because it makes me feel grounded. When the needles start clicking, and the yarn moves through my hands, the noise of the day fades away. It becomes just me, the yarn, and the quiet satisfaction of making something meaningful.

So why do I knit and crochet?

Because every stitch tells a story, …one stitch at a time.
